Impartiality
Impartiality is vital when investigating Big Cat sightings and is fundamental to the investigators personal reasons for being involved in Big Cat research. Does the investigator simply want the evidence purely for improving their web site? Is the investigator simply seeking their own publicity? Is the investigator working for other agencies? All of these are questions that impinge on the impartiality of the investigator. It encourages the need for the investigator to ensure that every sighting has to be a cat or indeed the opposite… that every sighting must be something as mundane as a dog, fox or deer.
In the coarse of my involvement in Big Cat research I have found that the genuine non-agenda (other than finding the answer to the big cat question) investigator does indeed exist. Before choosing who is going to investigate your sighting ask yourself this question: What, if anything, do they get out of this? Then follow your instincts. Me, I get a day or two out in the country, meeting interesting people all over Great Britain, possibly sell a picture or two (see the Buy Wildlife Photography section) & advertise the loss of civil liberties in Great Britain (see the NO2ID section). Nothing more, nothing less, apart from the thrill of trying to make sense of a particular set of events. Oh, and on the vast majority of occasions being freezing cold, extreamly wet , very tired & seriously out of pocket :-)
Many investigators including myself are simply doing this to find out what is the explanation for Big Cat sightings \ events. Is it a dog? Is it a fox or deer? Has the animal died naturally & carrion have stripped the carcass in an unusual way?….or is it indeed something that can not be so easily explained?
In the coarse of my investigations I have had need (with the witnesses approval) to work in conjunction with a few independent investigators that I know are simply interested in finding out about big cats, for the simple sake, of finding out about big cats. Should you decide not to contact me with regard to you sighting I would recommend these one-man organistions as impartial investigators…their website addresses can be found on the 'links' page.
